The Rideau Canal in Ottawa was the beautiful setting for the 5th Annual Canadian Foundation for Infectious Diseases (CFID) Bug Run that took place at the AMMI Canada CACMID Annual Conference. The canal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with 47 locks and 52 dams, constructed after the War of 1812, to provide a secure waterway between Montreal and Kingston. Nearly 30 enthusiasts braved the early hour and joined together to run, jog or stroll the 2.5/5km course before attending their first session on Saturday morning. Nearly $30,000 was raised from this event and will be put to very good use in supporting our funding initiatives, including merit awards, summer student research awards and pilot grants. CFID is committed to using 85% of all funds raised to directly support research programs.
