Pressing Research Priorities

These priority research areas are identified by the CFID Board during a strategic planning process and are outlined in our 2011-2013 Strategic Plan. They are constantly being reviewed and adjusted based on emerging epidemiology, new and enabling technologies, national needs and availability of sponsors and funds. Current CFID research priorities include:

  • Antimicrobial resistant organisms and the infections they cause
  • Detection and prevention of nosocomial outbreaks
  • Detection and control of water-borne pathogens
  • Rapid detection and identification of non-cultivable pathogens
  • Antimicrobial stewardship
  • Drug safety and effectiveness
  • Emergence and re-emergence of sexually transmitted pathogens
  • Pandemic influenza preparedness
  • Immunotherapy for HIV/AIDS and chronic viral hepatitis
  • Global health research
